Pace is an unincorporated community in Santa Rosa County, about 22 road miles north of our office by way of the Pensacola Bay Bridge. It sits just north of Escambia Bay, northeast of Pensacola and west of Milton, and it is the second-largest community in the county, with 24,684 residents in the 2020 census.
Pace grew fast and recently. The Census counted 171% more residents in 2010 than in 2000 and another 22.8% by 2020, with the rapid growth beginning around 1980. The median home dates from 1996, and homes are spread almost evenly across the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. At about 1,500 cycles a year, a door from 1996 has cycled around 45,000 times, several lifetimes of a standard spring, so we ask what has been replaced and what is original. About 87% of Pace homes are detached houses.
