Milton is the county seat of Santa Rosa County, incorporated in 1844 and located near the mouth of the Blackwater River, about 25 road miles from our office. It lies in the geographic center of the county, with Pace to the west and Navarre to the south, while East Milton, Point Baker and Bagdad remain unincorporated outside the city limits.
Milton's housing is a mix of eras: the median home dates from 1987, about 36% of homes were built before 1980 and about a third from 2000 onward, and nearly 18% date from the 1960s, a larger share than in Pace or Navarre. Cold matters here more than on the beaches. Milton recorded 10 inches of snow on January 21, 2025, a Florida record, and DASMA lists extreme cold beside heat and salt air among the conditions that affect springs when a door is left open. NOAA normals show about 11 days a year at or below freezing at Pensacola Regional Airport.

The run to Milton goes north on Gulf Breeze Parkway to Avalon Boulevard, across Garcon Point Road, and back onto Avalon Boulevard to Caroline Street near the county courthouse.
